Setting farmall H Timing

My rebuilt H is running great but burning my spark plus to a black color, Could it be my valve setting & timimg. Im not a super mechanic but what is a easy away to set the timing with the valves.

black plugs are running rich. A fuel issue. Try turning in the Load screw (lowest on carb) to lean it some. Timing cannot make black plugs unless it is missing radically. JimN

Timing wouldn't have anything to do with black plugs...

Black plugs are a sign of running rich as mentioned above. Lean out the carburetor by turning the bottom screw in until it stumbles when accelerating from idle to full throttle, then back out just enough so it doesn't stumble.

Black plugs is not a timing issue, it may be running too rich, try leaning the carb adjustments a bit and see if that helps.

I had this happen on my H and they are right about the mixture. Also if this is a show tractor you may want to put a HOT spark plug in. It helped my H run a lot smoother. David
