Anyone know how much a barell of concrete weighs?

I built 2 Counter weights for My 240 by splitting a plastic 55 gal. in half. 1/2 barrel is approx. #500 lbs :shock:

I get 882.42 lbs. Using 2/3 cubic feet = one 80 lb bag of cement mix and 1 gallon = .1337 cubic feet. 882 lbs is a ball park figure.

Concrete weighs 150 lbs per cubic foot. There are 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot. So, 55 gallons are the same as 7.35 cubic feet, and would weigh 1102 lbs.

By comparison, steel weighs 490 lbs per cubic foot.

Sweet, that is about what I want. Anyone know how many 80# bags it takes? to fill it?

Coax,
I prefer my half barrels to be filled with amber liquid. But if
you insist on concrete, you're about right.

A 55 gallon drum measure's 23 X 35"H.
r.r.pi.h=ci

11.5X11.5X3.1416X35=14542 ci
14542/1728=8.415cf
8.415X150=1262lbs

That same equation can be used to calculate engine
displacement. Hal

rXrXpiXstrokeX No of cyls

Example for the 2 cyinder JD G engine with a bore of 6.125" & a stroke of 7.0"

3.0625*3.0625*3.1416*7*2=413cid
