Regular carburator issues

I'm not a carb man, but I have taken those brass ones apart and cleaned them up before. I have owned a 29 regular off and on for 15 years. Best starting tractor you ever saw until last year. Started this thing of flooding. I ordered a new float (cork) and even sent in the old one to get it done correctly. Ran Ok for 6 months, then happened again. Put a different carb on it, and it ran good until the other day. Thing has been, if the tractor didn't start on the first try, it would flood. Now it starts OK, but has sporatic surges, spits and sputters during these surges. Does anyone have info on how to adjust these carbs? Mine ran great in Texas, at 4800 FT elevation, and only started having problems with it when I moved to Northern Az @ 6700 ft. Thanks for your help, Jerry

Jerry, Someone Had told me the coating on the corks don,t like the alchol in the gas these days
Mabe it is the float adjustment? oldiron29

Thanks, I probably will take it off and do some testing off the tractor to see if the float and needle/seat is working. Just ticks me off that I have had 3 tractors in my collection this year with carb issues. Even with the higher prices on gas, the gas now is junk compared to what it used to be.

I doubt the altitude would do that, It just wouldn't have the power it would at lower altitude and may need just to be leaned out some. Some problems I had with my 10-20 (same type carb) was the new float having a drip of the coating catching the bowl sides. I fixed it by filing the drip off. I got my float from Rice Equip in PA and he assured me the coating was compatable with alcohol. One thing to note is there is a machined grove on the inside of the bowl, Set the float to that line!!!! The specs I got with my new float were WRONG! It ran HORRIBLE (way rich) and wouldn't adjust right till I set the float to the line and then it purred like a kitten and had no more problems.

Jerry, I have to second the fact about the machined groove. Last year I finished the restoration on my Grandfather's 1929 Regular. When I got it, it had no carb, manifold, etc. So I bought a couple of parts carbs and built one that looked OK. I set the float to the groove, and after adjusting the mixture, it ran like a top. Not bad for some old junk parts off eBay.
