Farmall 100 surges for gas

Ok I have a Farmall 100 that it will run fine normall driving. If I hook a 5' disk or 5' drag on it it will run good for say 20 30 yards then it like dies off then surges then runs good for another 20-30 yards and keeps doing this. I checked for good gas flow from the sediment bulb that looked good. I then pulled the plug on the bottom of the carb and it seemed to get good gas flow out of it. does anyone have any suggetions of what might cause this?
Thanks
Chad

If it has an adjustable main jet open it up a little bit at a time till you hit the sweet spot. If you can't open it up enough to get black smoke then you have a clogged main jet

Is the adjustable main jet coming out of the top of the carb at an angle? I think we adjusted that and it helped once then slide back into howe it is running. Is there a start point like 1-1/2 turns out from seated? I will play with it next time I put the disk on. Thanks guys

The screw at the top is for idle mixture and has no bearing on the power of the engine. You mite have a bad condenser or spark plugs as they can cause the sams things you describe.

I love how everyone just assumes you know what the problem is and doesn't suggest alternatives.

There are two other possibilities besides fuel:

1. Governor worn, broken, or out of adjustment.
2. Ignition worn, corroded, burned, or loose connection.

On the 100, this is most often caused by rust in the gas tank. There is an elbow in the carburetor where the fuel line goes in. Shut off the gas at the sediment bowl, unscrew the fuel line and take out the elbow. It has a screen on it that get full of crud and the gas can't flow into the carb. fast enough. Once you use the fuel in the bowl it starves for gas. If you let it set a minuite it will fill up again.
