tranny seals

i'm trying to replace the seals that seal the main drive shaft and the belly pump drive shaft. i have removed the belly pump, unhooked the main drive shaft. now i have to get the seals out and i can't get the belly pump yoke off to get the seal plate out. does it unscrew, i would think it does but it is tighter than the hubs of hell. if it does, is it counterclockwise? would it be ok to put heat on it, all the oil is out. thanks for any advice.

Lock the brakes, put the shifter in reverse, & turn the coupler counterclockwise. It is tight so just add a bit more effort!

The drive on the transmission and on the pump unscrews counter clockwise (right handed). Try a piece of key stock in the slot or a big pipe wrench to unscrew yolk. I had to put some heat on mine to get it loose. Put the transmission in gear and set the brakes to hold the shaft from turning.

For the one on the belly pump, put something in the port of the pump to block the gears from turning and then use a piece of bar that fits the slot in the coupling. Some say to use a screw driver for this, but I'm leary of gear damage. I ended up disassembling the pump on my M and then making a clamp out of hardwood to hold the gear before I finally broke it loose. If you can fab an adapter so you can use an impact wrench on the coupling, that should help. For the one on the transmission, the same bar and impact comments apply, I have blocked the shaft from turning by putting the PTO in gear and then attaching an old PTO yoke to the pto with a bar though it. Just putting the tractor in gear may not give you enough leverage, as the engine may turn over. Setting the brakes may work, but when I did mine, had the brakes off it, so could not say on that.
