Still having troubles with my old M. After I torqued the manifold it ran good for another couple days till I tried to tweak out the carb to get rid of the black smoke. Now it don't run worth a darn. The main jet screw is out about 4 turns and still runs lean and erratic.

I am looking for a carb kit for a 47 M serial number 140XXX the throttle body has the number 8557D cast into it. The ID tag is gone and I cannot match it to any kits listed on this site. Does anyone know what kit I need?

nnalert catalog list 2 carbs for an M but only one kit number. Or in other words they say theres only one kit and it will fit both carbs unless you have a carb on it that does not belong on it

I can't find my catalog for them at the moment. Think I know where it is I just have to retrieve it. Their website was no help, and this site listed half a dozen kits.

That 8557D number means nothing. It is only the part number of the casting. The number that does mean something is on a small, round brass tag that is riveted to the throttle body. That number will be either 47387 for the distillate/kerosene carburetor, or 50983 for the high compression gasoline engine. It really makes no difference which number you have. You want the 50981 kit. I also have the kits, floats, etc.

Notice that all but one kit has the contraction "Dist." in the description. That is short for Distillate.

Bill: Make it easy on yourself; order a kit from Rustyfarmall. He is a pro carb man. However, if you insist on ordering one yourself, the HyGrade brand number is 1310. mike

Thanks Rusty, That was just what I needed someone to say it really doesn't matter. I found my tag on the carb I was looking for one like on a zenith that hangs from the a bowl screw. I was so happy with your help I have an order waiting for you to ship tomorrow. Thanks!

Is the new manifold warped where it meets the head? Spray some carb cleaner on the gasketed area with the engine running and see if it makes a difference.
