560 diesel smoking

Are you sure its oil not un-burned fuel?? Whens the last time you took it out and really made it bark by working it long and hard. Diesels do not like to be babied but they like to be worked long and hard. If your baby it a lot that problem will probably go away if you take it out and work it good and hard for a few hours

old it sure is using a lot of oil these days but all it has done this spring is pull a 17 hole drill and rake hay David

Blue Smoke is oil burning.Maybe valve guides, maybe rings, maybe both.Black smoke is not enough air,or too much fuel, white smoke is water. If its throwing oil out of the stack you might want to check into whats doing it.Sometimes a diesel will slobber fuel and throw black stuff out,but it doesnt have to burn a lot of oil to do it.A good thing to check if something changes quick on a motor is the air cleaner. Its a long shot, but if the air cleaner would be plugged its possible to make it pull oil in through the valve guides, but not real likely.
