farmall H driveshaft removal

hello I have the belly pump out and all the for bolts that hold the drive shaft to the tranny are out.The driveshaft slides just a little but wont seem to pull out from the clutch.Do i have to take the clutch apart? thanks john

John, I don't think you can get the drive shaft out without taking the pressure plate loose. I have never tried to take it out that way, but I don't think there is enough space in the coupling to allow the shaft to pull completely out of the pilot bearing and spline in the clutch plate. If you take the pressure plate bolts out you may be able to tip it enough to remove the shaft. Is there some reason you are taking out the drive shaft? Roger

There is a way. It requires taking 3 equally spaced bolts out of the Pressure plate, then putting them into three holes on the rdge of the PP. this compresses the pp and allows just enough wiggle room to get the shaft out. JimN

Thanks guys,i got the drive shaft out with your advice from this site!!! i am replacing the two seals in the tranny end and the one in the belly pump.Might as well replace the throw out bearing also as that seems a little bit loose. I removed a ton of grease from the tranny area. I was able to get all the seals out last night. thanks again.........john
