International 504 fuel leaking out of carburetor

Hi, I have an International 504 gasoline model, it was running fine a few weeks ago and now I try to start it and it will not. It doesn't seem to be "catching" and there is fuel leaking from the carb. I took the carburetor apart and gave it a good clean it was pretty dirty, a lot of varnish, so I figured that was the problem but no, on trying to start it the same thing, it turns over but won't start and the fuel is leaking out of the carb still. Any ideas of what the problem is? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

You might have a bad needle and/or seat or float. My 300 had the same problem, found out the float bracket was a bit too wide which allowede the float to touch the side of the bowl and hang up. I still make a point to shut the fuel off if I'mnot using it for a while.

Check for spark also. If you've lost the ignition, you can crank and crank, and soon gas will be coming out of the carburetor. Problem may not be the carburetor..... mike

Like Mist said check for spark-start with the points in the distributor, make sure they are properly gapped and clean.
There are several excellent articles in the archives under "no spark or no fire".
