Farmall SMTA stuck in fifth gear

Hi,
My father-in-law's super MTA is stuck in fifth gear. The shift lever moves fine and feels like it is shifting ok, but I can't get the transmission out of fifth. Any options other than taking off the transmission top and seeing what is broken or worn out? I'm guessing the shift lever is disconnected from the fork or the fork is disconnected from the gears. Thanks for any ideas.

Haywood: Take the shift lever off at the base. (3 bolts) Then take a big screwdriver and move the rails all to neutral position. If the end of shift lever is not the size of the notch in one rail, then build it up with welding. Keeping in mind the size of that notch in rail grind the welding until it shifts smooth.

What happens with these, end of shift lever gets worn and slips out of notch without moving rail to neutral. Your lucky you didn't put it in 2nd or 3rd and drop the clutch at full throttle, it will go in those gears while still in 4th or 5th, and the weakest gear breaks.

gerard: My mistake, never had an MTA, just figured the shift lever changed when the chassis changed. It's still just a matter of pulling the shift lever.
