Today I changed the oil in my gas 450. A guy told me to use Rotella T 15w40. So i changed the oil and filter. Now I started it up and it sounds like it has a slight knock. Maybe a rod? Could this be because of the thicker oil. I never heard this before I changed the oil. Could going back to a lighter oil help this. What oil should I use?

I don't know what oil you were using but a 15-40 means 15 weight oil that will maintain 40 weight characteristics when hot. Going to a "lighter" oil would be 10-30 or 5-30 and most probably increase a knock. Do you have oil pressure ? Was it the correct filter installed the correct way ? Rotella is one of the premium oils around.

A lot of M, SM, 400, 450s etc. have ran thousands of hours on Rotella 15/40 without a problem so I do not think it would bring instant death to your 450.

Changing oil itself will not create a knock... Rotella 15w-40 is a high quality oil and is used by millions of people.

Lighter oil would make a knock worse, not better.

Where is the knock coming from? Use a dowel or broom handle against the block (other end to your ear) to help determine where it's coming from.

It was the right filter. I put it in how I thoungt it should go. Is there anything special I have to do when putting the filter in.
