people suck!!!!!

My first tractor was an A I bought it for $1000.00, The guy told me the only thing wrong with it was the magneto. Turned out the starter was fried, and the Head and Block have a crack in them....

So I decided to look for a new block and head. I found one on Ebay about 6 hrs round trip from me. It was in a Super C, The Auction said Good Block, Good Head. I get it home and took the head off only to find it siezed. then when I went to loosen up the rods and try and get the pistons out, I see the crank is broke in 2 pieces. What is the matter with people these days. Does'nt anyone have a conscience anymore.
I am sooooo ------! I could have bought a good running tractor for what I've got in it now.....

Anyone want to buy a Farmall A and a Super C?

And thats where the term buyer beware comes from, If you have no mechanical ability to check stuff out before you lay down the cash, you should take someone with you that knows what an engine is and how it works..............................by the way I have this bridge for sale...........Interested?

I would like to take them off your hands, but my wife says I have to buy her a Mustang first. I am going to get one that needs restoring...... anyone have one CHEAP????

I was afraid we'd start seeing this sort of thing after the big Kruse "antique" auction.

People are gonna be peddlin' that worthless crap for years to come.

Not saying that is where your's came from............just sayin..............

Take it easy...I do know what an engine is, and how it works. I've even changed my oil once. But thats not what I am saying. If I know I've got a siezed engine and a broken crank I am not gonna try and sell it on ebay as a good engine. I expected to rebuild the engine so i did not worry too much about the engine not turning, but i did not expect to find a broken crank.
It's alright I think I can use the crank from the 113 in the 123
or am I wrong again?
I've only been messin around with these things for a month so I plan on learning the hard way, it's the best way to learn. Sorry guys for me venting earlier, noone else around here will listen.

The crank from a farmall A 113 with work in a 123 block.

Where ya at, if the "super C" is a complete tractor, less the problems you state, I would be interested.

I am in SC, but no its not complete, its more or less salvage

Did you call the guy and tell him the crank was broke? He may be willing to work something out. Most guys in the business are honest and will make it right. I go out of my way to help if someone is unhappy with a part, especially if it was me that made the mistake. Are the block and head in good shape? Just a thought. Good luck

If you have only been at it a month, I'd say you are in over your head. If you had been fooling with these tractors for 10 years, I'd say what's the problem ? It sounds like the head and block that you bought were good. The crank is bad, but so what ? You were buying a head and block. If they really are good and not cracked you will have to buy new pistons and sleeves anyway, so stuck is not a problem.

A little research in your parts books or at the CaseIH website will tell you if the crank from your A will fit the Super C block. Actually, if the blocks have the same casting / part number, you are good to go. Did the SC motor come with the hydraulic pump ?

The guy who said the A had a bad mag when the starter was shot was a little off the mark. A $1000 for a non-running A is a little steep, but not too bad, if the rest of the tractor was complete and in decent shape. The busted block and head are a bummer, but mt Super C ran for 10+ years with a cracked block and never leaked a drop of antifreeze externally or into the oil.

Please note: you will never make any money rebuilding old tractors. You do it because you like them or because you use them and they are cheap reliable horsepower.

I can feel the hatin' going on in here 8) I do not see what this guy (francoisc27) has done to make all of the people whom have replied be so negative. I am somewhat "wet behind the ears" myself. I think this guy is just having a rough start finding parts and is getting shafted in the process, he has a right to be upset. Was he taken advantage of by someone whom has posted a reply? If not then why be so hard on him for being a little naive. francoisc27, keep learning and trying, one day you will have for A or C restored and you can know deep inside, you made it happen.

Good luck,

Charles

I'm with riverbend on the C... The ad says good head, good block... Doesn't say free, running, or good crank...

If you get it tore down and the block and/or head are no good, then you got shafted and have a right to be mad. Otherwise, you got what you paid for.

The A on the other hand... Maybe he was trying to put one over on you, maybe not... It's very plausible that he was ignorant/inexperienced enough that he thought the magneto was the reason it wasn't running right. He doesn't have X-ray eyes and couldn't have known about the cracked block and head. You'd have to tear down the engine before you bought the tractor (not likely to happen) to know it had a cracked head and block.

If there's evidence that it's been recently tore down and put back together, he put one over on you, and you have a right to be peeved. Otherwise, give 'em the benefit of the doubt: He didn't know about the internal problems, and you bought as-is, where-is.

Saw a SC on craigslist under Charlotte, NC for $1800. All restored per seller except for tin. Rest of tractor was painted and looked good. Said he has $3500 in it so far.

Hey most of us have been there or very close at some time and I agree with a couple of folks who said speak to the seller there might be some good in that. If it was falsely advertised on ebay you might just be able to make a compensation claim. MTF

(quoted from post at 20:51:11 05/28/08) "Suck" is a crude term. mike

I am sorry for the subject title, that post was about 5 min after I found the busted crank.
I emailed the guy who I bought the tractor from and he said he was sorry and that in this business when we refer to a good block and good head it means there are no cracks. I am ok with that!

one guy stated that if the engines where tore down and put back together then they would/could be scamming me, I fully agree with that now. Both engines where full of some of the blackest oil I have ever seen, so chances are they never really new for sure what was wrong with the engines.

I hope I start to get some better luck on these things because I really enjoy learning and working on them, I would just like to be able to drive one some day :D.
