Speeds Super A vs 140

Are the Super A and 140 geared the same? The 140 seems to go much faster than my Super A.

Vacherie: Are your tires the same size, there are huge speed differences between 9.5 and 11.2 and even more with 12.4

The tires on the 140 are 9.5 and the Super A tires are 11.2. That's what is puzzling. The 140 just seems different.

Vacherie: According to the experts, offsets are supposed to have the same gear ratio. I sometimes wonder if those experts are talking about transmission only and there could be a difference in final drive ratio. I've never checked this out.

It could be the governors are set giving a higher rpm in your 140. Full throttle was supposed to be roughly 1540 when new, however a lot of these have been changed over the years. I've run across some of these tractors turning up tp 1800 rpm.

Some of the 140"s had a high 4th gear. The tractor wouldn"t hardly pull off in fourth, had to start in third and shift to fourth. They were about twice as fast as a Super A. Check the 140 parts books.
