Hi all,
How can I check the output of the pump on a IHC 404? The 3 pt won't lift and I've tried bleeding the system of air but when I break the line I don't get any leakage of oil. also some one who worked on this tractor before me left all the guts out of the filter canister. There's nothing in there not even a filter, could this be causing a air lock?

Don't know about the airlock cause of no filter, but something could have gone through the pump and ruined it but you didn't provide any prior history details such as was it working fine the day before or last year, etc.

Short of taking it to a dealer and putting it on a flow rater, you could pull a line and time it as you pump into a bucket. Pull the line with the engine off. Have plenty of hytran available. Sometimes you have to over fill the hytran by 5 gal just to avoid those air problems. Let us know but adding extra oil may make a difference.
 
i wouldnt run it until you get a filter and screen for it.the pump may burn up. and when you put the filter in, fill the canister with hy-tran then put it on.
theres a small 1/4"square plug on the left rear side to check the fluid level. hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the replies, I don"t really know the history, only that it has been sitting a couple tears. I"m gonna get the guts for bthe filter and try the over fill trick.

Someone had tried the overfill trick on my 404 before I got it. All it managed to do was cause excessive load on the engine and make fluid leak from the trans top cover and shifter.

The system holds a little over 7 gallons and should work fine without being overfilled provided the pump is good. I fixed mine by replacing the plugged filter and water saturated fluid.

I'd start with getting all of the filter parts back in place and the correct amount of fresh fluid in the system...
