headlight bulbs

I have a SA and when I bought it the tractor had a 8 volt battery, the guy I bought it from said he burns out the headlight bulbs because they were 6v bulbs, is there such a thing as 8v or 12v bulbs?

There USED to be 8-Volt automotive bulbs available, I don't know where you'd get them nowadays, but a 'net search would probably turn up some.

That being said, an "A" will start just fine on 6-Volts, if the starter is in good condition, the battery cables are BEEFY and CLEAN, and the battery is good. Saves the need for any "special stuff".

Get a voltmeter and see what you are putting out. Maybe it is rewired 12 volt and somebody just stuck in a 8 volt batt. I have used 8 volt batt and never burned out a single bulb. They were 6 volt bulbs, too.

Thanks for your input guys, I put in 6 volt bulbs and the lights work, but blowing fuses?
My volt meter is busted for now.
