1942 H questions

Hi all. I"ve been enjoying the heck out of our "new" H. Starts right away. Until a couple of days ago. I hit the starter and it turned over once, and that was it. Won"t turn over now, and I charged the battery just hoping that was it. It wasn"t of course!
The original gauge and switch was removed a long time ago when the loader was put on, way before I got it. The headlights were removed as well due to not fitting with the frame of the loader, and a start/stop switch was installed. I bought a gauge pod from Ebay and am planning on installing it along with new wiring. The wiring on there now falls apart when its touched.
I could use some advice for hooking everything back up like it should; the rear light (still there), the headlights I need to purchase yet, the gauge and the wiring. Any advice would really be appreciated. Thanks again.

Wow !! Sounds like the wiring is about gone on 'er...If you can, take your jumper cables and put the positve cable to ground...put the negative to the battery cable post on top of the starter.Turn yo
ur switch to on and try that if she turns over, you've got wiring problems,if not check the "box" starter cable unit and make sure it touches the copper spade on the starter, also check to make sure cable nut on starter is tight..they have a habit of working loose !
Good luck !! Jim B.

...and make sure the ground is under the bolt that holds the starter in place.

I've seen some with the ground attached to the frame, and it seems it always causes trouble.

Also, if you try and jump direct to the starter with the battery and it still won't start, its possible that your starter picked this as an opportune time to fail. It could still be wiring (especially from your description), but you might want to pull it and have it checked.

Good luck.
