IH 674 Clutch/Trasmission Issues

Our IH 674 Diesel has been slipping for the last few weeks, works to some extent in low range gears as long as there's not too steep of grade.

If you wait about 30-45 sec with it slipping, it will grab and go, feels like oil or something on the clutch.

I pulled the access panel underneath, and was greeted with about 2 cups of oil/sludge falling out. Any idea what's going on here?

Yes the main seal is out in the engine or transmission you will have to split the tractor and replace the seal if it is red color trans if black engine if just chunky just grease from throwout bearing and pivot shaft. those are a metallic clutch disk there is a fiber option for them now I believe. you might try to adjust the linkage on the pedal first. If there is no free play in the pedal or the easy part of the travel is gone.

Hi Reddog, probably due for clutch replacement. Be sure to replace with HD 6 pad clutch. My brother's 684 used to drip engine oil out of the inspection plate especially if we had been working on a hilly field. When we changed the clutch a few years ago and took the flywheel off to have ground, we found the rear main engine seal caps screws were loose, torqued to proper specs and no more engine oil leaks.
