IH 300 power steering

Ok, I am ordering a manual on tuesday but as of today I have this. I have a 300 56? gas with loader. I noticed fluid leaking out behind the steering wheel down on to the battery. I removed the cover and found a hose about 3/8 dia 1 foot long, not a metal tube, threaded, that had come undone from where??? It is attached to the steering column just above two small hard tubes and to the lft but after searching for an hour I dont see where it leads too, it is leaking fluid.

Two ideas: Guessing it is a utility
GO to caseih.com and search for parts. Find your unit, and select steering.

We do not know if it is a utility with a seat on the top of the dif, or a farmall with a pan seat. JimN

utility, I tried looking at the parts list before I posted, found where it comes out of the steering column but nor where it goes, and it wasnt labeled, thanks though

I don't know if this helps. I'm looking at my service manual. A picture shows two hard lines on the right side of the control valve on the steering shaft going to the steering box. On the left side of control valve, it shows a hard line & a hose (side by side) going down by the TA lever then towards the back somewhere under/near the seat. It doesn't show final destination. A schematic of the control valve shows that these two are the supply & return lines.
I would go look at my 350 Utility, but it's dark & raining right now. I don't have much experience with tractors, but I do have a manual. So I will be happy to look stuff up. Good luck.

You are talking about the 1/2inch rubber low pressure return hose on the left side of the steering column past the left side and around the rear of the seat(resevoir), under the tool box if installed, then into the rear inner port of the safety valve at the right/rear of the seat (resevoir).

Don"t know why it took you an hour not to find it, if it was a snake...........

There is a large hose about 3/4 to an inch (a little bigger than my thumb) that does what you described, goes from steering back to rt of res. This other hose starts above that one on the steering, is about the size of my pinky and is a foot long. I have looked all over and don't see any open connections or the other piece of the hose????? (i acquired the tractor from someone who knows less than I do) It is a hose not a metal tube. Thanks for everyones input

I appreciate your patience and help. The problem is that the hose I described is only connected to the steering column and not connected anywhere at the other end and I dont see where it should be connected. I got the tractor not long ago from someone who knows less than I do. There may be a whole section of hose missing from the one foot piece that is left that would have led to where it connects. Again, the bigger 1/2 - 3/4 hose is in place and attached to the rear rt of the res. All of the metal tubes on the column are attached. This is a smaller hose coming from the steering column that is dangling free?? and I have not found where it should connect. Thanks again

There is. There is a metal tube coming from the left center of the column leading to the left middle side of the res. it runs parallel to the 1/2 - 3/4 hose that we discussed earlier that leads to the back of the res. the only other 2 metal tubes lead straight down from the steering column to a beer can sized thing on the right below the steering column. The only thing left is the small hose that attached above all of these on the column that hangs loose????

My tractor is stock and original. There are a total of 5 connections on the ps.
4 in more or less a row at the middle/top of the column. we have accounted for all of those.
The other is on the lower left side of the column at the battery level which connects to a fitting on the right front of the resevoir beside the two hoses that go to the front mounted pump. I think its just a return or overflow tube. Thats it. No other connections.
