Quick Tire Size Question

Hello All.

Just a quick question for those of you who have been at this longer than me.

In regards to the rear tire size on a tractor, a 10x38 is the same as today's 11.2x38, correct?

And this is the size tire that would have come on an H?

Thanks!

You are correct. A general rule of thumb is one number higher than the inside rim width. Inside rim width of 10" would use a 11.2 tire. It is not uncommon to go one size larger. For example a 12.4 on a 10" rim.

Purely as a matter of interest most of the H's imported into The UK were on 36 inch wheels and used 9x36 or 10x36 and a very occasional 11x36. As I said just for interst MTF

Hi , I have about the same question . But to make it easy is there a list posted anywhere that breaks down tire sizes into ascending order by diameter or width or both ? I'm looking for tires and rims for my M which blew a rim after the bearing replacements in the trans . I'm not sure if I want to get 15.5's or 14.9's . I have both on it now and the 15.5 is the one that blew the rim . My rims have been widened in the past to 12" . Sorry to intrude on your post . ...Randy

Most commonly, yes - that is the size for an H. But, there were other options also. mike

8/8.3, 9/9.5, 10/11.2, 11/12.4, 12/13.6, 13/14.9, --/15.5, 14/16.9, 15/18.4. No old size for 15.5.

Thanks for all the info everyone!

I had found a set of used rears for sale listed for a Case, and I wasnt sure if they would fit the H or not. Of course, by the time I called they had already been snatched up, but I guess thats the way it goes.

Randy-IA, are you saying that you have both a 15.5 and a 14.9 on your M? I thought that the 15.5x38 was a lower profile tire, and that a 14.9x38 would be quite a bit taller, even if it was more narrow...

Hi . OOPPPSS!!! I feel like a dummy now ! I have to remember that I have old timers disease :) . I was going from a memory from a long while ago and decided to go out and pull the tarp back and double check the size . The other tire is a 13.6 NOT a 14.9 both on 12" rims . Sorry ! That's what was on it when I bought it off ebay a couple years ago . The rolling diameter is about a 1/4 inch different and the 13.6 has more tread than the 15.5 even though neither is worn out with between 40% and 60% tread left . They are both so weathered that they aren't worth anything anymore and the 15.5 is flat with a 5" hole in the rim around the stem . ...Randy
