Pulling a 10 ft. IH disk with my M, going to do about 15 acres with it twice over.. any estimate on how much gas per hour an M might burn under that load? (stock engine), pulling the disc about 5 inches deep.

I remember Daddy had an IH offset harrow that went about that deep. On the feild here at the house, which is close to 15 acres, hed start about 6 in the morning, and when he cam in for lunch, hed fill it back up again, then go over it again. I dont recall how much hed put in it, since the store he bought gas from was about a half a mile from here so hed just ride it up there.Seems though it was about 15 gallons.

They like their fuel when loaded. We always fueled twice a day when doing tillage work, do not know how much we would put in but tank was fairly low on fuel. WE had G John Deere that you had to take 5 gallon can to field with you to be able to run half day. Back then our days ran from about 6 AM till at least sundown.

Hey, Allan in Illinois we call 2:60 =3:00. I haven't been able to make it that long working an M, always hoped for a early lunch so I wouldn't have to walk from the far end of the field (always) and carry a can back.

Take $40 of fuel in a 5 gallon can and work work the field from a full tank until it till it runs out. Use the $40 fuel to get to the main supply. Every condition is different enough to make difficult an accurate prognosis. I would also make sure to set the load screw for good power on the lean side of adjustment, and watch the temp gauge. If the inside of the muffler is grey ansd pretty clean after an hour, You are pretty good. If black, Too rich. It should not stumble on quickly opening the throttle, but five dollars worth of fuel blown into smoke is not hard to do today. JimN

Steve: I'd go with Chuck's thoughts, 3 gph just about right. They were much better than the 6 cylinder 460 and 560 gassers that came along 10 years later.

Steve, Just like Allan said.....My families old M, when filled up at about 7:30 AM, pulling a 8ft cut JD hydrolic lift, rubber-tired, Tiller Series Oneway plow, Not stopping for lunch, would run dry about 2:30 to 3:00 as a rule.Hope this helps.
