SA Voltage Regulator

Restoration of the SA has progressed to the (re)-wiring stage. I purchased a voltage regulator to support the 6 volt negative-ground system from Napa. They gave me a reg with a Napa part number VR850. It is even make in the USA! Does this sound like the correct part number? On the bottom of the reg there is stamped "6V pos". I assume that indicates pos ground system.

In the box were minimal instructions. There was also in the box what appears to be a coiled resistor and long screw. What is that for? Haven't seen that part on any of the SA wiring diagrams posted on this forum.

You seem to have conflicting statements, particularly the first one.

CNKS is right. The tractor is Pos ground from the factory. Do it that way because you have that regulator. Find John T charging system info and BoB M wiring diagrams to assure your success. Polarization of the gen is necessary. Starters on these do not care what polarity they get, they turn correctly. Use fat 00gauge cables to the battery. JimN

T he instructions that came will tell you how to mount the coiled resistor and where it goes and yes it should be positive ground thats why it is marked.
