hey where does the generator ground at inside of the box because I would have no charge except when you would ground the wire that comes from the f terminal to the ground on the battery so that means all that is wrong is that i am not getting grounded right?

Thanks Wellsy

Right. The Fields ground through a resister to "regulate" the charge. Grounding the field terminal directly results in full charge all the time. For occasional use tractor or winter use that's what I do. Just use a jumper wire and if the think the battery is being overcharged unhook it for a while.

Wellsy - Even if the resistor has failed the generator should still charge hard with the light switch set to the "H" position.

Most likely the ammeter box cover - and thus the switch - is not grounding to the tractor frame. Another possibility (long-shot...) is the LHDB switch has failed.

Tip - If you run your tractor a lot replace the cutout and manual control with a voltage regulator! It'll solve your field grounding problem. Also it will do a better job keeping the battery charged (and not overcharging....) than you can ever do with the manual control.
