Can anybody help me? THe 1939 F20 I"m looking at has an elect. start & lights. I was told it was an option thast year. Is this true? Help!

Electric starting & lights was a option, but is extremely rare now if you have all the orginal setup. I saw the electric starting parts only (starter, flywheel, bell housing) on eBay once and they sold for nearly $1000. If you can get a F-20 with electric start & lights, buy it now, they are very rare.

Thank You, I'm bring it home this weekend!!!!!
It's my late mothers day from my husband. What a guy he is! Even if he drives Deere's!

I don't believe electric starting was ever an option on the F20 although electric lighting was. I have a 39 F20 my father bought new. It has electric start, but that was put on later by purchasing an after market electric starter kit. The kit included a new bell housing, ring gear, starter, etc. I remember the flyweel had to be removed and cut down to install the ring gear. Thus any F20 with a starter is quite rare as they were all installed with after market kits.

Electric start was not a option from IH- They were available as an aftermarket kit from Heisler. Many dealers installed them before delivering the tractor to the customer in the last years of F-20 production. Very nice to have.

Andy,
I agree with guy. The electric start was not an option from IHC on the F-20 (It may have been an option from a dealer who would install the after market starter kit.) You do not see any IHC markings on the flywheel housing of an electric start housing. Other IHC tractors of that era did offer an electric start from IHC but not the F-20.
