Farmall 140 Tune-up Questions

Hi all, wondering if you can help. I ordered a IH manual for my 140 but I have not received it yet and we need to start cultivating ASAP.

Can someone advise on the following:

-spark plug gap?
-float level?
-point setting?
-why the needle and seat I got in my rebuild kit looks different then the original?

Much appreciated!
Michelle.

I know the plug gap is 0.023 and I think the point gap is 0.018.

Note: I upgraded to electronic ignition to eliminate points/condenser, and upgraded the coil to a petronix so I could open my plug gap to 0.045. Works great (got parts from this site).

mdemeyer: Plugs are .023, points are .020, Float setting depend on which of 3 different carburators you may have. Carter 17/64, Zenith 1-5/32 and Marvel Schebler 1/4.

The needle and seat you have may be for one or the other optional carburators.

More likely, the needle and seat in the carb are the original all-brass design. Nowadays, you can only get rubber-tipped needles.

mkirsch: That has changed, I bought a needle and seat for my 130, from CaseIH in Jan 2008, a steel tipped needle. Seems as though the mother corperation is finally listening to old iron users.
