I went today and bought a new battery for my riding lawn mower. I put it in.
Mower would not start. No action at all when I turned the key.

Huum, must be the solinoid...so, found it, took it out and cleaned the terminals..it works ok. So, put it back in. "Huum, where does this little "green" wire go. (I had already took the switch key assy out and unplugget it from the system. So, I put the green wire on the batttery side of the solinoid. I plugget the switch key assy up and sizzle sizzle and lots of smoke came pouring out of the engine.

Oh well, burn it up. Took tester to see where it went...came from rear to the coil thing that the spark plug wire came out of. So, now I have put 12 volts on the ground wire to the ignition coil and burned it up. Exterior mounted. So, I said to self, I wonder if I burned anything up under the flywheel. I made a puller and pulled the flywheel. All is well under there. Time to put it together...dam...where is the key for the flywheel...in the mean time..my aggrivating beagle picked up the key ring and tore out of the garage with me on his tail screaming...the louder I screamed the faser he ran...Never recovered the key...so tomorrow..(I will go get coil, ignition switch, with key, and key for crank shaft...and some tiedown straps where I cut them to get the gas tank out.

THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS...THE REASON IT DID NOT START IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS I DID NOT PUSH THE CLUTCH IN.

I hope all of you have a happy Easter...and a smiley day for those of you that do not join us in that celebration.

The last time I replaced the battery on a mower the deck had been left in gear (there's a safety switch to prevent it from starting with the deck engaged). Not that I told any one at home about that.

Funny how some times the best way to fix a problem is to step back and think about things before doing things. Then go back and go over the way you should start something before messing with wires etc. Bet it is going to cost you a good number of bucks to fix it now. Oh well at least your not bored

Howdy
Best laugh I had today, I try to work on things where others can't watch because I feel watching me work is kinda like watching a dog chase his tail. When I was young I could work with a tool in each hand, one in between my toes and a flashlite in my mouth, but now the hand/brain coordination is gone. As long as we can still smile and laugh at ourselves there is no reason to slow down, I'd be lost without my sense of homor, if I ever misplace it I'm done for.
HAPPY EASTER

I just signed up for an electrical class thru WITC.
I put the wrong wire on the wrong battery terminal in my boat. Took off accross the lake then noticed that I had smoke coming out places other that the exhaust.
I replaced the wires, but some things are still not working right.
I now have the wires all taped together that go to each terminal.
Sucks.
Oh well

Beagle dogs can be like that. Pete ( my beagel) is asleep in the workshop.. I think I will go tell him your story. On the other hand, it might give him ideas!!

This sounds like one of my projects.

Thank you ... I just love stories like this. It only supports that I am not the only one out there that does these sorts of things.

My brother's dog (yellow lab/chow mix) loved to take tools and anything else she could get like lug nuts. Changing a tire and come up missing 1 lug nut so you had to find the dog and she was "guarding" her new toy by laying on top of it. She passed away over the winter. Good dog.
