I have a 1964 gas 706. How does oil get to the rocker assembly under the valve cover? A while back I took the head off my 706 and had it milled because it was leaking around the head gasket. Today i took the valve cover off to retorque the head bolts and there has been no oil at all getting to the rocker assembly or anything under the valve cover. Thanks

Oil is metered through one of the camshaft bearings and then routed to come up around a head bolt up to the rocker arm shaft. If the camshaft bearing in not installed so that both oil holes line up with the holes in the block there will be no oil available to go up into the head.

Were you getting oil to the rockers before pulling the head? If you were, you may have blocked the flow when installing the head or gasket. This explains what Owen was talking about where its highlighted. This is on the lettered tractors. Your tractor may have a similar setup for getting oil to the rockers. Hal

The rockershaft oils the rockers the same way but the 706 does not have the separate oil tube to the head. The oil comes up around a headbolt and enters the hollow rockershaft through a notch in the shaft.

I don't know about the gas motor but I had the diesel and had the head off and when I put the new head gasket on I put it on backwards. It fit perfect all the bolt holes, water jacket but when started it up no oil on top. On the diesel there is one oil hole on one end of the gasket and if you have the gasket on backwards no oil on top. The gasket looks like you can put it on any direction but you have to look carefully at it.
