574 with Issues

Neighbor has a good looking 574 gas, good metal,
paint, tires, but swept-back front and just 14.9s
he wants to sell for whatever. Brake pedals go to
the floor, trans dipstick is dry and hydraulic
oil stains from battery down (all side sheet
metal still on it). I know under that metal there
lies hydra brake stuff and that hard-to-fix
steering valve. It also doesn't want to shift
from neutral to H, L, or R. Should I run away
from this headache?... or an easy fix?

Hi, if you are interested do some more investigation. Hydraulic leak could be in return line that feeds the brake master cylinder. The hydraulic lines are steel but have short joining pieces that are flexible material and after years they crack and leak.
Re 14.9 rear tires should be 16.9 x 30 if you want to do heavy tillage.
Re Hi/Lo/Rev, could be mechanical shift linkage or misadjusted clutch.
