806 injector pump leaking

I have a leak on the throttle shaft on the engine side of the pump. It's always worse when the weather is cold. I guess the seal/o ring shrinks.

Someone had told me about the return tube on the backside of the pump, I believe, but I got the pump turned so I could check it and that wasn't the problem. When I force the throttle up and a little the drip turns into a small stream, so it pretty well points to the throttle shaft seal.

Question is what is the seal on the shaft (block side) and does it have to be installed from the inside of the pump or does it press in from the outside?

Appreciate any help.

All the sealing is done by one 0-ring that fits into a groove on the throttle-shaft. One on each side. Shaft comes apart into two pieces, and each piece pulls out of the pump. Usually there's not enough clearance to get the shaft all the way out on the engine side, with the pump on, but I can't say for sure on an IH 806. Same basic Stanadyne DB style pump is used on AC, Deere Ford, Oliver, etc. A complete seal kit costs around $12.

Ok, thanks a lot for the information. it sounds like the thing has to be taken completely apart to fix then?

I fooled around with it the first round and I couldn"t get the pump to come out of the housing it bolts onto. It would come out about 1 and a half inches then hang up. I didn"t try to force it.

Is there any trick to getting that pump completely out?

Thanks again.
