300 pan ]yoohoo mike ca]

Some where in my lurking around this forum I think you {mike ca] got a pan for your "H" that had a dipstick. Where can I get one like that for my 300 ? 30 CC Any one can answer this call.

The farmall 400 had a factory dipstick on the right side of the blocks about the height of the frame rail. I would assume the 300 has this also. If not the M blocks had a flat spot in the same spot of the block that could be drilled for a dipstick. If need be I can post some pictures this weekend. Armand

Back in the 1960's we got a dipstick that replaced the top petcock in the oil pan. I want to think we got it from T.S.C. If I remeber right this is what Mike in Ca. got with his oil pan. It sure beats dripping oil out of those silley petcocks!!!! Armand

The dipstick that replaces the top petcock is a highly sought after and collectible item. I've seen those things sell for well over $100.

Neither of my Dad's 400s have dipsticks. I don't think it was a stock thing until at least the 350 and 450. Anything older with a dipstick either has a combine engine, or an engine out of a newer tractor.

That top petcock dipstick is tough to find. They don't make them anymore. Everybody wants one, so when they come up for sale, they sell quick and they sell for big $$$.

Mike CA is just plain lucky. :)

Wouldn't you have to put it in the bottom petcock position? If it is installed in the top hole there will be oil there only when the pan is at the full mark. You would not be able to tell how low the oil level was.

Unit screws into top hole and the dipstick screws in to unit at a angle. Picture try.

Your Dad must have early 400. There's a serial # break when they started puting the IH type dipstick in 400 and 300 tractors. Some IH information conflicks on the serial breaks for C-169 and C-264 engine dipstick starts, so I won't mention any. Roughly 3/4 of 400 tractors came with a dipstick.

Hi Chuck!

It was a lucky find that I had to scrape mounds of oil caked mud off of to realize what I had. I haven't seen one in a junkyard since, but if I do...

Anyway... I thought 300's had build in dipsticks on the top of where the pan meets the block?

D Slater, you're right. Both 400s are early models. The W is one of the first 200 made, I know that much off the top of my head. I think the Farmall may have a 3-digit serial number as well.

There is one on Ebay right now... "Buy it Now" for $150.

Man, I'm gonna have to pay more attention at the scrap yard next time I go.

Of course, he hasn't sold it at that price.
