I"m finally getting back to my A project after a several year hiatus and have a question. I took all the internals from a newer baler engine and installed in my original block and I can"t for the life of me remember if I also used the generator and starter from the baler. I"m assuming that the baler would be a 6 volt negative ground system but not sure.... I also used the distributor style ignition from the baler as well and I"m not sure of the coil voltage. I"ve had the tractor running using a 12 volt battery to the ignition and starter just long enough to make sure it ran, but that"s been a while ago.
My generator number is 1100501 4K14
The starter number is 1107021 52166
I find no numbers on the coil just an IHC logo.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks, Daniel

Is the Delco generator oval tag black or red? Red is 12v, black is 6v. As for whether Neg gnd or POS gnd, that is simply a matter of which way you polarize it...i.e., same generator can be polarized either way.

I think the tag was black, can't remember for sure but I don't remember red.. Is the starter the same way, polarized either way?
Thanks for the info
Daniel

Dan, it couldn't hurt to check the rotation on the starter to figure out which one you have on there now. If you pull it out and put power to it, it should turn counter-clockwise when viewed from the gear end.

Those are the original Delco Remy starter and generator for the A tractor 6v pos ground. The gen would have the cutout on top of the gen.

That generator is indeed a 6 volt unit, used on several of the IH tractors (including Cub), perhaps additional applications. It is one of the year 1952 and later 6 volt units and is rated at least 20 amps output, so it was equipped with a voltage regulator. It is the so-called "long shaft" generator.

JMOR seemed to be replying to my earlier post. But the exact point of that reply is not clear. The information I posted earlier is correct in every way. The latest IH parts catalog I have from August, 1979 shows the regulator for that generator as being 121 578 C1, replacing earlier regulator 1 119 575. .

Sorry! Just trying to show a picture of what the gen might look like......might indicated by the ??? and the 'rigged' regulator, because it is non-original...........'farmerized??"
ok?
