This was IH introduction to fork lifts. The Harlo company, near Grand Rapids MI installed the lift on tractors, other brands also. After the 340, IH came out with the 4500. It was built from ground up as a fork lift. We had several 3800 (4 wheel drive) loader tractors converted to lifts. 30ft lift. Soon IH intrduced the 9000 lifts.

Nick: There was a kit to change any Utility 300, 330, 350, 340 and 460 to reverse travel and hundreds of them were done. Sawmills all over America had them with forklifts on them. Don't think IH built the lift mast.

The reverse platform, etc was done by IH. All one has to do to actually reverse them is put the crown gear an pinion in upside down. Don't ask me how I know. The reversed tractor could be used for purposes other than fork lifts. I saw a guy reverse a Farmall 560D, put a four row combine corn head on it with a cross conveyor between corn head and tractor for loading wagons pulled alongside by another tractor. It was a very high production corn picker.
