May be a 245 or some such. Not a 251. The 251 is a mounted planter. Either 1, 2, or 3 point hitch.

I did an implement photo search and found this picture and a comment by georgeky --> just under the photo, click on the [View other Comments] link and see. I just typed in 'IH planter' and got this result. The next page of photos has another, what looks to be, 245 planter. Click on it and you will see other comments and some links that may lead to some parts if needed or a source for literature. Good luck with your red iron and enjoy.

231

AL ... it does match that one in the implement photos..

Sooo.....is it a 245 or 231 ??

I cant find a parts diagram or listing for either one on the caseih site...nor does Binder Books have a manual listed for one...I can go the used route for a manual but want to be pretty sure before ordering...

Thanks for the replies

It is a 231 or earlier model.... As I said before.... I have one just like it as well as the manual for it... Could use some fertilizer boxes though.

The 231 and an unknown (to me) earlier model are identical, except that the 231 will not adjust to anything less than like 36" row spacing... The earlier model will go down to 28" I believe.

The 202 / 203 / 205 series planters are very similar to the pre 231. Drill shaft and seed box drives are the same... Frame is the same... Just doesn't have a trip clutch but rather a seat and manual depth adjustment lever as they are horse drawn.

Thanks
I dont have row markers but pull it behind a C with the wheel tread set to run on the previous tread.....I bought it the way it sets ..been using it for several years now....not sure if my seeed boxes and wheels were ever that color scheme? .. did you get that from the paint commitee archives??

looks good....
Dave

I could see traces of color on various parts so I replicated that... Inside of the hopper tops where dark blue, frame underside was red, there was white on the wheels... That's how I came to the paint decision...

Couldn't find a thing on these series of planters in the paint committee decisions... I believe the OLD #8 horse drawn planters had yellow wheels like yours though...

Take care of those fertilizer boxes... especially the iron bases...
