WD 9 or SUPER WD9

I purchased a WD 9. I am trying to figure out what year it is. Any suggestions? Tag says Model # WD 9. Serial #3958J. Should I look for any distinguishing characteristics?

looks like a 1943 with that low a serial number. to see a serial number chart, left hand column find research and info, chick on serial numbers, click on mccormick deering, then on w-9,wd-9, and match up the numbers!!!

Thanks, Will the tag have an "S" or "super" in front of the WD 9 on the serial tag? Do you know of any different characteristics, like in the brakes between a WD 9 to a Super WD 9?

the supers will have the s prefix, swd or swdr for the super rice version.
the wcb was the gas 9, wdcb the diesel 9
double disk brakes were on the supers and a 4.5 inch bore for more hp.

First I don't claim to know enough about WD9 tractors, but the serial # its self makes me wonder if its a super. Don't think IH was ending the serial numbers on those tractors with a J in the early forties.
