IH 460 w/ 291 motor

I am in the process of repowering a 460 gas w/ a 291 motor.

The oil filter base on the 291 block interferes with the steering shaft. Is there any issue with swapping the old filter base off the 221 block onto the 291 block??

Should fit without any problem. To my knowledge the blocks of that series are all the same and any of the parts will interchange.

The early cast iron base and the late aluminum filter bases will not interchange. If you put the early base on you won't have any oil pressure.

OK, you have me a little confused. It will fit, bot won't function? Any alternative to my steering shaft routing issue?

Check to make sure the holes in the block are in the same position and then use the gasket that fits the filter base.

The old cast bas e (from the 221 motor) will bolt right up to it. I have a gasket for the old base and I will bolt this up and give it a try.

I am also converting it to a spin on oil filter too.

The mounting bolt holes on all the blocks are the same. What you need to look at is to see of the oil holes are in the same locations.
