IH 300U Solenoid location?

PO converted my 300 to 12v and apparently wasn't too concerned about solenoid placement and I didn't think much about it either till it got broken today by the steering arm. I had a ford one on hand, but it sticks out even more. Anyone recommend a good replacement that's smaller or how I should mount it if there isn't one?

Thanks!!

On my 300u the solenoid is mounted right onto the starter, kinda on top out of the way of the steering arm. Of course I know this cause I just took the starter off to have the bendix replaced after just 20 starts. The leading edge of starter gear stripped away. i hope this isn't a usual occurence.

Probably sometime the starter or drive end, or case was changed to one that places the case that solenoid bolts to in a different position. Depending on drive end it may be possible to rotate case on it if it has other bolt holes.
Also the solenoid can be mounted at another place with a cable from it to starter.
If I was to guess, I would think someone put a row crop starter on it.

Move it up and use only one bolt and a hose clamp an tab of metal to attach. You might need to fab a conductor to the terminal. use 1/4" or 3/8 copper tube flattened to make it out of. JimN

I moved to the other side where the voltage regulator was and drilled/tapped another hole to mount it to. It's out of the way and working great. Now I just need to figure out the alternator stuff.
