I started my Farmall H Saturday after a few months of letting it sit. After running a short time, the engine pulley which drives the fan belt and water pump stopped turning. The engine was still running fine -- just the pulley stopped. I don't profess to be a mechanic but I thought the pulley turned as long as the engine was turning. Shows what I know.
Can anyone tell me what might be going on here?
thanks, jim

The pulley is located by a half-moon key and held in place with a large hex nut that is locked with a lock plate.
My guess is the previous repair person forgot the key and the nut came loose.

It's driven by the belt connected to the crankshaft -- could be slipping. Or no key as below. Or frozen -- belt should smoke.

The crank is keyed to the pulley, as noted by Wayne. It might be possible to remove the mud guard (tin plate bolted from underneath (probably is not there)) and try to get it far enough off to replace (diagnose) If it will not go far enough, the hand crank snout might be able to be removed. If no way, the bolster must be moved (front end W/radiator) moved forward. Best of luck, JimN

Disregard, you said engine pulley, I read fan pulley, brain not connected to eyes or fingers. Jim and others are correct.
