Does a venturi have to be smooth inside to function properly? I have one that is chipped and rough. Also does any one know the type of metal venturis are made of? This carburetor is off of a farmall m. Thanks

yes they should be smooth to function properly, i believe they are made of Grey iron, (pot metal)

I never could get the carburetor to run the tractor very smoothly, do you think this could be the problem?

I'd say it depends on just how rough it is. I've cleaned up a few venturis that were actually pitted because of rust, and the remaining rust pits didn't effect the running of the engine at all. Nice and smooth from idle to wide open throttle. A nice smooth venturi bore is always better though.

I one I have has more then just rust pits. It looks like a metel object bounced around and beat up the bottom end of it.

There still available from CNH new. just look around how many 248's did they make there out there?? just look around
