Factory TA delete effect on value

How does TA delete effect value on tractors. Ive heard both ways that shifting is better without and they are one less thing to repair wondering other thoughts. Thanks!

I guess it just depends on the person buying it. As far as I'm concerned it would significantly lower the value for me. Those tractors were designed to be used with a TA and are really quite efficient if maintained properly. While the TA was known to be a little tempermental most of the problems arose from operator abuse and improper adjustment. Adjustment of clutch, TA,etc. is crucial with these units. You really have to watch it when someone is claiming to have a tractor with the TA delete option. IH did offer this option on most tractors. Most of the time though someone has either removed the TA lever or gutted the TA and put a shaft in it to eliminate it. There is a big difference. The genuine TA delete option from IH may have some value for collectors. The ones that have been scrapped or cobbled are worth a lot less in my opinion.

TAs are the primary positive feature of those so equipped. They (if adjusted as needed every two years or so) lasted as long as the engine. They certainly reduced stress on the gears and clutch systems in heavy use by reducing the clutch and stop routine, with the resulting full power restart, when shifting to a lower traditional gear under load. If allowed to be out of adjustment, or used slowly into and out of TA (very bad on the TA clutch) they were not well thought of. If the TA delete was factory, I would say it is irrelevant. If cobbled, or welded, I;d say a detriment. If it was a delete with a trans driven PTO, I'd say it also detracted. JimN

I'd rather buy one with a bad TA than not one at all. They are not difficult to repair, once one splits the tractor.

for example: the Super W6 TA had the factory delete option in 1954.on these delete models the round decal on the side did not have the wing on it that said torque amplifier.i would think it should increase the value because there is fewer yet of these delete models in the 3005 built. and on the shifting,i agree that the sw6ta does not shift as good as the earlier ones without it.i have each model and this is my actual experience.

My 2 cents worth, some people like delete ta tractors because they never have to worry about the ta going out, The Ta is handy at times but I had a 856 without one and had no problems, seems here if it is TA delete, people like them just as well as if it had a TA.

Well I have to disagree with the statement that a ta will last as long as an engine. My 856 that has a ta needs one now and that will be at least the third one and its the original engine and still runs very well. The ta and clutch have been adjusted regularly and used properly and it has lasted 20 years and 4000 hours. I haven't decided if I will put the ta back in it or eliminate it. My other 856 had the ta taken out 15 years ago and there have only been a few times I missed it as it is a loader tractor, and it does shift much easier without the ta. Around here the sales I have been to one without the ta will bring just as much or more as one with, and I wouldn't discount one any because it didn't have a ta at least without one you know you're not going to shell out $ to put one in. Larry: Personally I call a TA Farmall with a deleted TA an incomplete tractor. Properly rebuilt and properly used they are good for 10,000 hours. Anyone getting less, has some short comings.
