Transmission oil is leaking past my gear shift leaver. I can only see a rubber or plastic cap with the shift leaver and coil spring. Oil is escaping past the cap and I see no easy way to remove shift lever to inspect.
What type seal or "O" ring does this have.

I think your transmission is over filled, Does your cub sit out side? Probably filled with water/condesation cubs are bad about this, I have to change my transmission oil once a year due to condensation, BTW cub transmissions hold only 3 1/2 pints of gear oil. check out www.farmallcub.com for other iformation about cubs. Thanks Dave, It is always stored in barn. I changed all oils last summer and it has never leaked. I checked all oil levels before mowing my yard the first time this year and they were correct. I am thinking of oil migration from the axle housings, although they are lower.
Further checking is warranted.

No it is definately coming from the shift leaver. The return line is forward and to the left of the leaver. After running the tractor, and the engine is idling, I can see the oil escaping between the dust cap or seal, and the top of the transmission. It doesn' look like HiTrans fluid but rather carimal colored oil. The oil levels are correct. I am thinking it has something to do with the pump return line. Lift works perfect.

I dont know then. But your Hytran is contaminated. I dont have a clue how it could get up past the shifter cup and leak out around there if its not over full unless something is damaged.

Thanks John---The Hytrans in all three checkpoints is red. All this doesn't make sense.I guess it is time for a closer inspection. I will post my findings.

It"s next to impossible for transmission gear oil to be leaking out the gear shift lever if it is filled to the correct level. The oil level is 3-4 inches below the top of the trans. On the left side of the transmission is a small plug that is the proper level for the oil. It is only 3 1/2 PINTS, or 1 3/4 qts. Definitely recheck this level.

Denny-- I have owned this Cub for over 25 years and have changed the "oils" many times. I have three oil level plugs and all three are on the rear of the tractor. The transmission plug is just below the pto shaft on a flat surface. All three levels are 1/8 inch below threads.
I have not had time to check this problem further, it is the first thing on my list tomarrow. I agree it looks impossible, and I will definately repost my findings, as always.
