1948 Cub final drive.

Today I removed the rear axle assembly out of my cub tractor to replace the bearings and seals in the final drive. I am really having a problem removing the shaft that goes thru the bull gear. The IT manual says to bump the shaft. I have tried everything except the press to try to remove it. I didn't want to try the press for fear of breaking the gear or something else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

the bearings are pressed on.they can be pretty tight. make sure you have all the bolts out of both sides. once you get the shaft off the inside bearing it should come on out. But you will still have to pull the outer bearing once the shaft is out.

My experience has been that it takes a pretty good shove in a press to get that axle out. My biggest wory was to get good support under the housing so I didn't break it.
