SC Belt Pulley Drive Shims

I have installed a belt pulley drive on a SC removing the delete cover. I am in the process of registering the gears using shims. My question is about grease seal. How am I supposed to seal the shims to prevent grease seepage? Even the CHN parts catalog does not show gaskets between shims.

None needed if the shims are clean. I have put a VERY thin coat of silicone sealer on each shim and re-assembled.

LMack would you be interested in parting with that delete cover? And does it cover the gear coming out of the back of the PTO or does the shaft need changed too?
thanks

There is a little rust damage. I was leaning towards using a little silicone. By the way I do not believe even new shims will not leak. I would tend to think the buildup of grease on the gear box end was a result of oil weeping thorough the shims and the Mickey Mouse grease seal on the shaft. Thanks. Larry

Anything you use to seal will change the play, albeit only slightly. Silicone is the worst offender. Clean the shims real good and make sure they are flat. I use a sanding block with 180 emory cloth followed by Scothbrite and then a light dusting of High Tack, never had a leaker. What is worse to try to seal is the area where the belt pulley is attached to the splined shaft. 80% of the spacer length is over the splined area with only a small remaining contact area where the splines end. It's a poor design. Clean with brake cleaner and use a small amount of black RTV when you install the spacer.
