H faster fourth gear

My dad mentioned that he had heard of a fourth gear that is faster than the standard gear. Does anyone know anything about that?

7 mph 4th gear and slow 1st gear were options on the H and M. Will be hard to find if you are looking for them.

If you are just looking to speed up your H you can use the ring and pinion from a w4. It will speed 1st - 4th up and be easier to locate one. Thats just another option I thought I would throw your way.

I have an H with a faster 4th gear but the slow first gear was removed when I bought it. It is for sale. It also has the high compression pistons.

Ring and pinion will affect ALL gears, including direct drive.

My dad put a gear set in his '43 H that had faster third and fourth gears. It was a three gear set. Third gear was stepped up to what fourth was and fourth was about 12 MPH. He ended up using it for loader work because it no longer had a speed in the old third gear range and wasn't much good for a lot of field work.

Sounds like it would have made it a slightly better haulage tractor, but not much else. 12MPH not much good except for road use.
