How many Farmalls were produced with the Electrall option? Where they only available on the 400/450 series?

From my books it was only available for the 400/450's No reason it wouldn't fit on a 300 hundred though (or atleast I can't think of a reason it wouldn't). Couldn't find any numbers of productions. It produced roughly 35.7 amps at 60 hz.

They weren't Farmall specific. Electrall came to market in June 1954, several months before the 400 series. They will fit W6TA thru 660 as well as corresponding Farmall models. The SMTA and 560 parts books, as opposed to 400-450 books, do not list the attachment. No sidemount gearbox will fit smaller tractors.

I doubt if any sidemount Electralls were attached to tractors and shipped from the factory. Some have said that only 103 sidemounts were produced. These appear to be dealer supplied. My F400 (serial # 519) has a sidemount Electrall tranny with a casting date in Jan 1955. This means the tractor and generator were not assembled together. The original purchaser was sold two separate items, the tractor and Electrall.

Don't confuse the sidemount with the Fast Hitch or trailer Electralls. Several thousand Electralls were sold but that is my estimate. Some were even packaged as kits for installation in IH trucks.

This forum has a search function. The term "Electrall" is emminately searchable. Your original question has been answered many times. I am answering because I am adding some new info that is not archived.

Don't be confused by the left side Electrall. It is not correct. It runs off a Cotton Picker gearbox.

Absolutely will not fit a 300 as a sidemount. The Electrall gearbox will not bolt up.

I need to add something for the record. The Electrall will not fit 560/660 unless it has a planetary IPTO.

Are you sure a electrall drive gearbox gear to fit any of the 560, 660 pto drive gears was ever made by IH?

Is it the spacing of the holes or is the gear wrong too? I am not very familiar with the 400 but assumed that both the 300 and 400 would have similar mounting holes and gears for the belt pulley. Goes to show one can assume nothing.

After checking my Electrall Operator's manual, 400/450 parts book, and 560/660 parts book, I am sure that there is only one Electrall gearbox, and secondarily, it is impossible to drive a sidemount Electrall with a 560/660 using standard gears.

The tooth count on a SMTA/400/450 IPTO driving geears is 25 teeth. The 560/660 has three different options. They are 18, 21, 22 teeth.

One could install the earlier 25 tooth driving gear and matching driven gear in the 560/660 but it would increase the IPTO speed and the hydraulic output.

The gear you see in the Electrall gearbox is an idler gear. It is driven off the top of the IPTO driving gear. There is only one of these and there is only one of the next gear which is connected to the pulley.

So, to sum up, the reason there is no Electrall listing in the 560/660 book is because it will not work. I learned something today.

The belt pulley has nothing to do with the Electrall unless one is a nutcase like me and goes for twin Electralls. In my case, I removed the belt pulley gearbox and installed a Cotton Picker gearbox so that I could get power to the left side Electrall. IH never did this.

Secondarily, the Electrall gear box does not have compatible gears or housing bolt pattern for the 300.

One needs to understand that the Electrall gearbox bolts to the clutch housing. The belt pulley gearbox bolts to the rear frame cover.

The 115V outlet receptacle on the Electrall is limited to 15 amps. The two separate outlets for the 230V single and 208V three phase are capable of full generator output of 37.5 amps as a total load when both are used. Through the use of a separate distribution panel, one can use the full 37.5 amps in 115V if no other loads are connected. That would be 75 amps of low voltage. Manual says the Electrall is capable of "2 to 3" times 37.5 amps for a brief period. This would allow for starting large motors such as the GE Electrall farm duty baler motor.
