More Sickle Mowers

I have a fast hitch (for SC/200) sickle mower. It does not have a trail wheel. It does have a lift arm to control the cutter bar angle. I have not found a model number on the mower. It will be needing parts. What are the possible model numbers. I have not seen any of the models at CIH that seem to match.

The first part needed will be a wooden pitman (found as part no. 481168R1). Then I will need a drive belt. I don't know what additional parts I will need.

CIH part 4539R1 (Pitman) may be a better match. I have looked at every mower CIH has listed and not one looks like the one I have.

There is not a C 24 or even a 24. They are 100, 105, 110, 120, 200, 22, 222, 230, and then the pull behinds which start at 1100 and up. Neither of the two units shown with a fast hitch option indicated the need for a wooden pitman.

ACTUALLY...there was a C-24 McCormick mower made for the C. There were also mowers made for other letter series tractors which are not in your list above. In addition there is the 25 and 25V which were similar to the JD #5 mower. As to your other numbers...100 is a trailer and probably 105 too, 110 and 115 (not listed) are mid mount. 120 is a semi mounted mower. The 1100 and up mowers were NOT all pull behinds. 1110, for example, was a mid-mount mower. Cannot speak to your 200 series mowers but the 100 series and 1000 series would be balanced head mowers without pitmans.

This is the Fasthitch mower that came with my MTA. Faded sticker says U-F28. 7' bar. Missing the pitman stick too. Think I can make one myself though...

I'm looking at about 40 pages of parts breakdowns for a C-24 and another few pages to make it into a C-24-P. The difference seems to be the drawbars -- the 24 is bolted on just like a 21, the 24-P is Fast-Hitch, both made for a C or Super C, with a wooden pitman.

another 40 or so pages for a C-21-P, which was a C-21 fitted with Fast-Hitch and pitman. They were made and do exist.

If you will send me a pic or post one here I will tell you which mower you have. All the pitman rods/sticks are the same. I make my own and can give you the proper dimensions if you want to make your own. The ends are expensive but are still available new from IH.

As for the belt there are 2 different sizes depending on which pulley your mower has. There was a standard and high speed pulley which is larger in diameter. Will need a measurement or part number to know which you have.

It should be a C-21-P or the heavy duty C-24-P. Most parts are interchangable from one to the other.

Very intresting photo because here in the UK IH put a 3 point linkage on to this type of mower. They called it the B23 and it was one of the best mowers in the UK. They started production in the early 1950s and was still available in the mid 1970s. MJ

The pitman stick is just a piece of oak. Worse comes to worst, you can always go to your local lumber yard and pick up a nice straight-grain piece and whittle your own.

Nothing special about the belt, either. A standard B-series belt of the right length ought to work just fine.
