M radiator studs

When I pulled the radiator off this M to replace the water pump both of them broke off about 1/4 inch from the bottom of the radiator. Now if this was some where on the block etc I would weld a washer and then a nut on and have no problem but can I do this safely on the radiator with out making it leak??
Thanks

Pieces studs screw into are riveted and sodered in tank and if to much heat gets there you know whats going to happen.

when that happend to me on my 450 I welded nut to stud got it out, solder did melt but threaded insert was riveted on mine, put in new studs cleaned up around stud silver soldered around stud and tank three years running strong.Scott

just a thought for you to think about. cap or plug both hose connections, fill radiator completely full. cap and turn radiator over, leave at a slight angle and weld away. water will keep solder cool enough it won't melt. pressure cap will releive any expansion so radiator doesn't blow a seam. i can't see what you are working with but by your description this might work

Turn radiator upside down and apply PB Blaster to them several time for a couple of days. Is there enough to get ahold of them with vise grips?
Otherwise I'd cut them off flush with a sawsall and then progressively drill them out.

I like this solution. another way to do it is to have a garden hose running a bit of a stream onto the bracket/tank to keep it cool as fresh fallen snow (which it is doing outside my windoe at 2 inches an hour right now). The weld heat will then not damage the solder. May the weld be with you, Jim
