baffled on 200, won't start

spark to plugs, new coil, plenty of power to starter but it still won't start. sat for probably 5-6 years. took off manifold, no mice nests. any ideas? thanks, kevin

if it sat for quite a while, first thing i'd do is put some automatic trans fluid (dextron) in a pump il can and pull spark plugs, give each cylinder a couple 3-4 shots of fluid. roll the motor around a couple times to get it spread out. check to make sure you dont have any valves sticking, maybe run a compression test. if it all looks good, button er back up, and give er a shot of ether starting fluid in the carb and see if she pops. if it does, pull the carb apart and clean er up a little

You need to check the fuel system, pull the carburetor and disassemble and soak in a container of carburetor cleaner. Then clean all the jets and blow out with compressed air. Then
install a carburetor kit. You need to check the gas tank for any gummy residue from old gas being left in there. The gas line needs to be cleaned too along with the sediment bowl. Once you have the carburetor installed then see if the engine will start. If it doesn't hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if there's good suction. If there's very little suction pull all the plugs and squirt engine oil on top of the pistons then crank over the engine a few revs then squirt some more oil on top of the pistons then reinstall the plugs and see if it will start. Do a compression check if it won't start and see what the readings are. The rings may be stuck. You need good intake manifold vacuum to pull that fuel into the engine. Hal

Suggest also checking the points to be sure they are gapped correctly and not burnt.

Have you checked to see if you are getting spark to the plugs? I have a 6v system on my IH 140 so my 12v inductive timing light won't work off the 6v battery. I connect the leads to a extra 12v battery and put the inductive clamp on the spark plug wires. It will make the light flash. If it flashes you have spark.

i've tried everything, its got spark, fuel, apparently no motivation, maybe i should take it out on a hill. looks like it'll become my parts tractor for the c and super c. thanks guys
