826 was available in gear drive and Hydro models.
I read somewhere that IH was going to increase the hp of 756 and call it 756 series II. I think this plan was shelved, they kept the 756 as it was and the increased hp tractor became the 826. The 1026 Hydro was a 1256 with Hydro transmission.

farmall650: They are not as close in hp as statistics would have you believe. As others have said 826 was an economy model. It wont hold a candle to an 856.

Where was the economy though? I've never seen an 826 that wasn't fully "decked out" with all the same equipment as an 856. Fenders, 3pt hitch, four headlights, dual hydraulic remotes, tilt wheel and deluxe throttle. About the only thing economy was the German diesel engine and the 34" tires.

The way I understand it from my friend that was an IH mechanic at the time they were built is that the the tractor that was badged 856 custom was the economy model built to compete with the JD 4000. The 856 custom had single hydraulic, smaller fuel tank, and maybe two less headlights etc. The 826 was just a German diesel. Lee
