Hi just got a 48 c with wide-front I spotted an oil dipstick near oil gauge i never seen a dip stick on any old farmall like this looks factory too. is this common? or could some swap engine? What old farmalls came with oil dip sticks Thanks

I have a friend that has a C with a Dip stick and it is the correct block for the tractor. Some of the power units blocks had a dip stick too. But they have a cut out for a starter on the oil filter side.

Not factory. It may have had a newer engine put in it or maybe even and industrial engine. The 230, 130, 140 and so on had dip sticks and the engines will bolt right in.

Check the casting numbers on the block and see if they match up (the letter code included will give the year of casting). Also, check the block serial number on the right side of the block near the Number 1 plug at the very front of the engine on a flat stamped almost behind the throttle control rod. Trace both to see if they were intended for a C. The part number cast into the head on the left side over the manifold may yield helpful information. The part number will be different for later engines.
