1954 FARMALL SUPER H on ebay

Hi guys, I was looking on ebay at a 54 farmall super H. My question is. The description said that the wide front end was factory. I thought all factory wide fronts had the tirods in the front. If you want to go to ebay.com to look at the wide front the item number is 270364028273. One other thing the serial number is 25533MJ. never seen MJ at the end. What does ths stand for?

That type front was available to install on tractors in 1954. SH serial # 22952 and higher came with the frame rails already drilled for the stay rod ball socket support. A drilling diagram was included with the attachment when purchased for installing on earlier tractors.

So any H or any SH prior to serial #22952 would have come with the older style front end? I have a 52 H and found a tie rod in the front front end for it but wanted to make sure that it would be the correct front end for that year because I have seen 53s with the newer wide front on them and was unsure about the 52s.

To further add confusion, the IH Parts catalog shows the change to the newer style wide front (tie rods behind axle) at 19234, which is the serial number simultaneous with the introduction of the Stage II Super H in mid to late 1953. But, I'd never challenge Dave Slater's H and M knowledge.

Then, there's the farmer with a '49 H who decides to buy a wide front in 1955 - so he gets the new style. And there's the farmer who buys a new Stage II Super H in 1954 and he has the dealer install a wide front - only it is an older style wide front that's been in the dealership inventory since 1952. I think you can see where this is going.......
