39 Farmall B serial #

Is the serial # in the same place on a 39 Farmall B as it is on later B's? The previous owner told me this tractor was a 39 model. There's no serial tag on the seat bracket and no holes where the rivets should be to hold the tag on. It also has a different steering wheel than all my other B's and there are raised casting #'s on the top side of the axle housings, which are not present on any of my other B's.
Between me and my grandfather, we own 9 B's from 1940 on up. They all have the serial tag on the seat bracket and none have the raised numbers on the axle housings.
I'd appreciate any info you guys can give me. Thanks in advance.

If it has it's original engine the serial number is on a flat area right by the number one (front most) spark plug. I don't really know of any different place besides that and the tag on the ORIGINAL seat bracket.

Yours had the tag on the pedal cover rite below the left brake pedal. If your cover is still there there would be 4 holes where the serial# was fastened. Also your wheel has a molded wheel three spokes and laterr the spokes were steel. Yours is made of a bakelite type product.

Gene is right on the serial number plate. It should be on the pedal cover between the brake pedal shafts.I`m going to throw another wrinkle in here ,too. I own a `39 A serial # 1474 and it has a 2 spoke steering wheel on it and the spokes are molded all the way to the center and around the center hub. There are pictures of the A in early sales literature with the 2 spoke wheel, but mine is the only one I have seen in person with one on. It`s somewhat flimsy which is probably why they ended up with 3 spokes. Mark

Look on the right front of the engine block over the distributor or mag. at the very front of the block almost behind the throttle rod near the #1 plug to see the engine serial number stamped in a flat. It will not be a raised cast in number but will be stamped. For the B, the engine number was the same as the unit serial number. If the engine is original that will be your serial no.
